58
Serves 263,209 customers, $1,394,536.00 of sales and provides 14,146 GWhs of electricity per year. 209,604 are residential.
Being a Full service/vertically integrated energy provider, Southwestern Public Service Company (SPS) is owned and operated by Xcel Energy and serving much of the Texas panhandle. While the parent company has made significant investments and commitments to renewable energy and energy efficiency, including a commitment to get to zero carbon energy by 2050, in Texas, SPS has thus far made only modest investments in Texas, as reflected in its score. In 2020, they did commit to ending the use of one of their two coal plants by 2025, although their current plan is to replace it with natural gas. They also agreed to only run the other coal plant on a seasonal basis. They have invested in one major wind project in the Panhandle. Because it's a vertically integrated (full service) investor owned utility, the energy side if its business was also scored (+0 to +30). SPS's additional score is +7
